Conference Attendees

It is my pleasure to welcome you to my session entitled “Technological Advances in Rehabilitation.” During this session, we will explore an efficient system of vetting the ever-expanding world of technology, and how we can better select and use technology to improve patient outcomes in rehabilitation. Patients admitted to inpatient rehabilitation hospitals frequently present with significant functional deficits that impair their ability to care for themselves and re-integrate into society. We will show examples of patients with various medical diagnoses and how technology can be used to facilitate neural recovery after a significant medical event, such as a stroke. In addition, we will discuss the International Classification of Function and the importance of sustainability in the healthcare setting.

Dear Participants of the, Global Conference on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

I am honoured to be speaking at the 3rd Edition of Global Conference on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Experts from across the globe share knowledge on anatomical topics to help each other improve patient recovery and return to exercise or sport. My background is in Sports Medicine Podiatry. Believe it or not, I chose my profession after having trained Standardbred race horses growing up and knew that I could help people with their gait issues. I am a 37 time marathoner and have experienced injuries and can relate to my athletes. I look forward to hearing from the distinguished faculty that will be presenting the next few days. No matter how long or short you may be in your practice, the learning never stops and this is an opportunity to learn from the best!

Dear Conference Attendees

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to attend the session entitled “Chronic Traumatic Brain Injury: Changes, Challenges, and Solutions”. People with traumatic brain injury (TBI) may have chronic cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social, vocational, physical, and medical challenges. Although some will improve over time, others may decline. However cognitive, physical, functional, and medical problems can be addressed through medical, rehabilitation, and lifestyle interventions. Diet, exercise, socialization, and challenging mental activity can have a positive effect on cognitive status. Cognitive deficits, behavioral challenges, and functional limitations can be addressed with rehabilitation programs, even years after injury, though lengthy treatment programs may be needed. Residential rehabilitation programs often result in improvement. This session will provide an opportunity for participants to gain knowledge of the challenges and potential solutions to problems that can arise with chronic TBI.

Dear Attendees it is an honor and great pleasure

It is an honor and great pleasure to write a few welcome notes for the session entitled "Super Shoes and Athletics: Update 2025 – What Does the Evidence Say?".“Super Shoes” - also referred to as “Advanced Footwear Technology”- continue to be a hot topic in athletics and sports medicine but are not without some controversy and misunderstanding- amongst both athletes and healthcare providers. Benefits have been documented to be performance-enhancing, but risks have been documented to include reports of lower extremity injuries. A thorough review and discussion of this new technology should be both relevant and interesting to attendees. A contemporaneous update will be presented, including applicable research and evidence- based studies. Rules for appropriate use of Super Shoes in competition are now in effect through governing organizations and will be discussed. Presentation will include a brief historical discussion, current concepts, and possible future emerging concepts.

Dear Attendees it is a great pleasure

I am honored to be able to share my passion and vision for one aspect of physiotherapy at GCPR 2025. My keynote presentation focuses on the fact that while it is important to embrace advances in technology to diagnose specific pathologies to guide proper treatment, many of the clinical exams are not predictive of patient function. As we know, functional markers are closely tied to co-morbidities, expense, and poor outcomes. A Hawkins-Kennedy exam is either positive or negative, it doesn’t predict risk of a Rotator Cuff injury. We have clusters of tests but these do not predict your two-year risk of injury. We can differentiate a Cervical Radiculopathy from a Stroke but these exams don’t reflect patient function or risk for loss of independence in ADLs. There are validated exams that do not require technology, a clinic or laboratory setting. These tests are directly linked to function. They are predictive of future function and may identify those at risk for co-morbidities, years or decades before diagnosis.

Dear Colleagues I am delighted to be part of GCPR

I am delighted to share a few welcome notes for our session on “Implementing AI and Assistive Technologies for people with disabilities: Opportunities and challenges”. During this session, we will explore in detail the impact that AI is having on supporting people with disabilities, examining practical examples of positive impact and some of the challenges for designing products and services in the future. The development of AI has been described as the fourth industrial revolution, and even during this early phase, we can already see a significant impact on daily life. This is felt not only in the provision of healthcare, but in education, employment and the promotion of independent living. During the session, we will explore the key issues that AI developers should consider, as well as the recommended questions and approaches for those implementing AI to ensure that the result is both inclusive and avoids bias and discrimination. Unlocking the potential of AI for individuals with disabilities requires careful planning and consideration, as well as the involvement of people with disabilities in a co-design process. Through this session, attendees will leave with practical actions to take in the future. I look forward to meeting you.

Dear Conference Attendees of the 2nd Global Conference on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dear Conference Attendees,

It is an honour and great pleasure to write a few welcome notes for the session entitled “Lifestyle approaches to prevent and manage disabilities”.

Over the last few decades, there has been an explosion in chronic lifestyle related diseases with a proportional increase in disability. It is not commonly appreciated and taught that many of these conditions are curable by making healthy lifestyle changes. There are many aspects of lifestyle such as diet, exercise, sleep hygiene and screen time over which an individual a lot of control. Good news is that it is never too late - many chronic disabling conditions are not just preventable, but also treatable, with cure or significant reversal / remission achieved through lifestyle changes.

After considering general principles of lifestyle medicine, the author will consider the available evidence for lifestyle management in a few common disabling conditions including osteoarthritis, dementia, degenerative brain diseases, neuropathies, cancer, metabolic diseases, etc.

I hope that you would benefit in many ways from this keynote lecture, including:

  • Improving your own health by adopting the right lifestyle!
  • Your patients would have already done some research in this area! You can counsel them better than Dr Google!
  • You can utilise these interventions along with other conventional approaches. For instance:
  • Weight loss before joint replacement to minimize the morbidity and improve the life of the prosthesis
  • Good lifestyle to improve the quality of life following coronary interventions
  • Lifestyle modifications before and after cancer treatments to improve QoL, reduce stress & depression.

Dear colleagues, congress visitors

Dear colleagues, congress visitors, from all over the world, I wish you all, on behalf of the Conference Organizer, a successful 2024 conference in Madrid. As we look forward to an amazing conference ahead of us, I invite you to participate and contribute with your participation, no matter where you are or what you do in the rehabilitation process. The world needs us, especially in times of climate change and military actions that have taken place. In times of economic crisis and energy deficit, many of us do not even have basic conditions for health care, let alone rehabilitation. But we will continue to strengthen the role of rehabilitation in health systems as an economically viable activity. All nations are united in the intention to build a commitment to rehabilitation services through integration into national health plans and policies, and cross-sectoral work, with meaningful participation of rehabilitation users. We have an important task ahead of us and that is to promote and share our experiences.
