Title : An update on trigger point injection in the management of chronic musculoskeletal conditions: From research to practice

Abstract:

Myofascial Trigger Point (MTrP) may be considered as a common consequence of chronic musculoskeletal disorders. There are multiple treatment options for the management of MTrP including conservative treatment strategies and invasive therapeutic protocols. From these, Trigger Point Injection (TPI) is a widely used aggressive therapy wherein a needle is guided directly into a MTrP. However, TPI is best used as part of a comprehensive multimodal treatment plan. This strategy can be particularly effective when TPI is primarily used to diminish pain in patients otherwise intolerant of physical therapy or stretching, allowing the physical modalities to be more effective. The aim of this presentation is to review the benefits, mechanisms, and the studies focusing on TPI.
