Title : Beyond words: evidence-based speech-language interventions to enhance social communication in children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder

Abstract:

Background: Children with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder frequently demonstrate age-appropriate vocabulary and grammar while experiencing persistent pragmatic language and social communication challenges.

Objective: This presentation reviews evidence-based speech-language interventions supporting social communication.

Content: Strategies include pragmatic language therapy, role-playing, social narratives, conversational coaching, emotion-recognition training, developmental social-pragmatic approaches, peer- and parent-mediated intervention, AAC, and technology-assisted intervention. Family-centered and neurodiversity-informed practice are emphasized.

Clinical Implications: Intervention should be individualized according to communication profile and participation goals.
