Title : Comparing the effects of aerobic and resistance exercises and vitamins D & E on oxidative stress and inflammatory markers among patients with depression
Abstract:
Depression is a prevalent mental health disorder associated with complex biological changes, including increased oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, and alterations in neurobiological pathways. In addition to psychological symptoms, individuals with depression frequently demonstrate elevated levels of inflammatory markers and oxidative imbalance, which may contribute to disease progression and treatment resistance. Emerging evidence suggests that lifestyle-based interventions, including physical exercise and nutritional supplementation, may provide beneficial effects by regulating inflammatory and oxidative mechanisms.
This study aimed to compare the effects of aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, and vitamin D and vitamin E supplementation on oxidative stress and inflammatory markers among patients with depression. A randomized controlled trial design was used to evaluate the impact of different intervention approaches on psychological outcomes and biological parameters. Participants diagnosed with depression were allocated into intervention groups receiving structured exercise programs and vitamin supplementation, while changes in depressive symptoms, oxidative stress indicators, and inflammatory biomarkers were assessed.
The findings provide insight into the potential role of exercise modalities and antioxidant vitamin supplementation as complementary strategies in depression management. Both aerobic and resistance training may contribute to improvements in physiological regulation, while vitamin D and vitamin E supplementation may support antioxidant defense mechanisms and inflammatory modulation. The study highlights the importance of integrating evidence-based exercise and nutritional approaches into multidisciplinary mental health care.
This research contributes to the growing field of lifestyle psychiatry and rehabilitation by demonstrating how non-pharmacological interventions may influence biological pathways associated with depression.
