Title : Exploring the efficacy of virtual reality exergame in post-stroke recovery at home

Abstract:

The continuity of rehabilitation exercises post-discharge from inpatient rehabilitation is paramount for the recovery of stroke patients. This necessity stems from recognizing that recovery is a gradual process requiring ongoing commitment. In recent years, Virtual Reality Exergame Training (VRET) has emerged as a promising tool in the rehabilitation sector, acclaimed for its capacity to improve the physical, social, and psychological dimensions of health. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a home-based VRET regimen on the physical fitness of stroke patients recently discharged from the hospital after a stroke. A randomized trial was conducted with 20 participants, divided into two groups: those assigned to an 8-week VRET program (intervention group) and those continuing their routine daily activities (control group). The study measured various aspects of physical fitness and showed significant results in the fitness assessments. The findings of this study are expected to contribute significantly to the rehabilitation exercise field, particularly in shaping more comprehensive exercise protocols for stroke recovery. By demonstrating the practicality and benefits of home-based VRET, this research could facilitate a shift towards more personalized and accessible rehabilitation practices. Furthermore, the insights gleaned will highlight the role of VRET as a powerful rehabilitation tool, potentially redefining post-stroke care. Through this exploration, the study aims to underscore the importance of sustained rehabilitation efforts and the innovative potential of virtual reality technologies in fostering recovery, enhancing quality of life, and promoting independence among stroke survivors.
